THE HEATED SOCKS ARE A GAMECHANGER WHEN I AM FISHING

If anyone understands the challenges of cold weather when spending time outdoors, it is Per Gylling Hansen. He is a certified fishing guide, experienced fly-fishing instructor, and sought-after speaker - in his own words: “a passionate fisherman through and through.”

Per’s fishing experience spans over 30 years. And throughout the journey, one challenge has always been present: the harsh impact of cold on the body, especially during coastal fishing in the winter months. “The window for catching fish is narrow in winter. The days are short. And so are the periods when the fish bite and move close to shore. That’s why it’s crucial to use your time efficiently and not be held back by the wrong clothing. This is where the heating products from Happyhot have saved many of my fishing trips. During coastal fishing in winter, we often stand in water that’s only 0-1 degrees at the surface - and even colder at the bottom and further out. In those situations, the heated socks from Happyhot have truly been a game-changer. When you wear them under your waders, they keep your feet and calves amazingly warm.”

Per’s many years of experience are also reflected in his deep knowledge of various products and brands within heated clothing. “I’ve been around since the days when people used disposable heat bags in their soles. A lot of it was junk, to be honest. And terrible for the environment because the heat bags could only be used once. Happyhot’s products stand in strong contrast to that. They are very durable, super functional, and based on high quality. And in my opinion, the prices are extremely reasonable. As a high-level angler, you easily spend several thousand kroner on clothing - 7,000-8,000 DKK for waders, for example. Compared to how functional Happyhot’s products are, you get fantastic value for money.”

In addition to the heated socks, Per also gets great benefit from the Alaska heated vest from Happyhot. “It warms like crazy,” he says with a smile.“It helps me when I’m standing in the water. The icy water column presses against the lower back. And at the same time, the backside of the body is exposed to the wind, which we often have against us. We walk on slippery rocks and have to keep our balance, which puts even more strain on the back. Sometimes I could barely walk when we came out of the water - especially as you get older. But the vest is brilliant because it provides a lot of heat to the lower back. That’s why I almost always wear it over my thermal top and under my mid-layer jacket and shell jacket when I fish during autumn and winter. And it’s stylish enough that I don’t mind wearing it in the city either. For example, I’ve often worn it when going to ice-hockey games. It has made my experiences far more pleasant on many occasions.”

Many people may think of fishing as a fairly stationary activity. But that is far from the truth.“We move around a lot. We fish through one stretch and then move behind the next point. We walk from the car - sometimes through forest - down to the water. In that way, I often end up walking 10 km on a fishing trip. And that’s where Happyhot’s products are brilliant, because they’re so flexible. You can adjust the heat as needed. When I’m standing still in the water, I turn up the heat. When I’m moving on land, I turn it down. And when we sit down for coffee and stay still, I turn it up a bit again. That flexibility is worth its weight in gold.”
